Sandburg Women Race Past Sauk Valley, Keep Pace in Arrowhead

The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball came out red-hot from 3-point range and coasted to a 69-56 over Sauk Valley on Thursday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
The win keeps the Chargers (11-13, 4-1) tied in the loss column with Black Hawk (5-1) in the Arrowhead Conference standings with three games to play. Black Hawk won Thursday night at Kishwaukee.
KEY MOMENTS
- The Chargers scored the first nine points of the game and ended the first quarter on a 10-0 run to race to a 27-7 lead. The Chargers hit 5 3-pointers in the first quarter and led 44-19 at halftime after going 8 of 14 from long distance.
- The closest the Skyhawks (5-17, 3-3) got the rest of the way was 65-50 with 3:02 to play.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Sophomore guard Hailey Lovetinsky (Overland Park, Kan./Spring Hill) went 5 for 10 from 3-point range and scored a game-high 18 points. Lovetinsky scored 12 in the first half while going 4 of 6 from distance.
OTHER TOP CHARGERS
- Sophomore Kennedy Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) had 15 points and six rebounds while going 6 of 11 from the field.
- Sophomore Faith Price (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) scored all eight of her points in the first half and connected on both of her 3-point attempts.
